The Catholics
The Catholics are a seven-piece band formed in 1991 with Sandy Evans on saxophones, James Greening on trombone and pocket trumpet, Julian Curwin on guitar and banjo, Gary Daley on piano accordion, melodica and piano, Hamish Stuart on drums, Fabian Hevia on percussion and Lloyd Swanton on double bass. Their tenth album, the double CD Shelter, draws on gospel, soul, funk, Caribbean and African music. It is the first Catholics album to feature Curwin, and nearly every member wrote for it. The band launches Shelter at 21 Shepherd in Marrickville on 1 October 2026.
